The word “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a variety of services which offer different functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, for instance, are two separate services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most of the people see them as one single service. In fact, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the e-mails for the domain name. As an illustration, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the email will be sent to the correct server. The reasoning behind using separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you can have your website hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

With a hosting plan from our company, you're going to be able to set up or change the A and MX records of your domain addresses and subdomains easily using our state-of-the-art Hepsia hosting CP. Changing the default records requires two clicks and the creation of a new record requires only a few more clicks, so in case you have never dealt with such matters, you'll not experience any troubles. We also have an extensive help section that makes things even easier. If you would like to switch your email provider and you have to set up a number of MX records in addition to the standard two, you can choose their priority i.e. which record is going to manage your e-mails first when someone sends you a message. Usually the new provider is going to tell you what these values should be. With our shared plans, you are going to have full control over your domain addresses and subdomains and you're going to be able to manage their A and MX records easily and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers that we provide, you'll have full control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and modifying any record takes simply a few mouse clicks. If you want to change your web or email hosting provider, you can change the required record and direct your domain address to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain name here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every one.
